Discovery of Angkor City

Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Region. Tourism has boost the economy of Cambodia.
Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia which over 400 square kilometers  contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th century.

They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with impressive monuments and amazing Khmer architecture. Temples such as Angkor Wat, the Bayon, Preah Khan and Ta Prohm are linked closely to their geographical context as well as being imbued with symbolic significance.


Angkor is therefore a major site exemplifying cultural, religious and symbolic values, as well as containing high architectural, archaeological and artistic significance.
 


 The Bayon was once the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddist King Jayavarman VII which built in the late 12th century. Bayon is a well-known and richly decorated Khmer temple. It stand at the center of Jayavarman's capital which Angkor Thom.  'The serenity of the stone faces' are build on top of the many towers in the temple.

Angkor has high and outstanding universal value. Construction work are in still on going which help by many countries to recover the original look of the Angkor city.  Angkor is one of the largest archaeological sites in operation in the world! It's really amazing!
